Firefighters battling the Rock Creek Fire near Colorado Springs got an unexpected teammate this week in the way of a friendly 4-year-old Nigerian dwarf goat named Goldie.
Instead of running away from the smoke, Goldie happily tagged along with firefighters for hours, leading crews down trails, munching on brush and even trying to sneak a bite of one firefighter’s lunch. While she didn’t officially join the department, she did help clear some vegetation by doing what goats do best: eating it.
Firefighters said Goldie’s surprise visit provided a welcome dose of laughter during a long, exhausting day on the fire line. Her owner joked that Goldie simply sensed the crews could use a little extra support.
The Colorado Springs Fire Department even shared the encounter on social media, joking that every crew needs a good leader and apparently this one had four legs.
Sometimes the best morale booster isn’t another firefighter… it’s a goat that refuses to clock out!
