Prom Night Heroics?

On May 17th, 2025, four high schoolers from Whitesboro High School in Marcy, New York (Aiden Kane, Morgan Randall, Donato Jellenich, and Tyler Sojda) were returning from their junior prom when they spotted a garage fire. Mistaking the orange glow for a bonfire at first, they quickly realized the danger and took action.

Kane alerted the family by shouting, “Your house is on fire!” as seen in cellphone footage, ensuring a father and his two daughters evacuated safely. Jellenich called 911, while Randall comforted the children, and Kane checked for pets inside.

Their quick response prevented the flames from reaching the main house, averting a potential tragedy. No one was injured, and the Maynard Fire Department Chief, Jared A. Pearl, praised their leadership and teamwork.

Kane, inspired by his father’s work in police and EMS, said the experience motivated him to help. The teens are being celebrated as heroes for their swift, selfless actions.

A Spider Monkey Rescue?

Violeta, an 18-month-old endangered spider monkey, was rescued recently during a drug bust in Vallejo, California.

The Solano County Sheriff’s Office seized half a pound of methamphetamine during a traffic stop, leading to the arrest of 50-year-old Clifford Vicenty. A subsequent search of his home uncovered another pound of meth, over $2,000 in cash, two rattlesnakes and Violeta. Owning primates is illegal in California, and spider monkeys, heavily trafficked and endangered due to habitat loss and the exotic pet trade, require specialized care.

Violeta was surrendered to the Oakland Zoo, where she is receiving treatment at the veterinary hospital. Initial exams show she is in decent health, but she’s receiving UV light treatments, calcium supplements, fruits, vegetables, and formula to strengthen her bones. Upcoming tests, including a CT scan and bloodwork, will assess her organ function and check for infectious diseases. Her temporary home includes blankets and toys for comfort and stimulation, but she is not available for public viewing.

Another Hero Emerges!

On March 6th, 2025, in Bridgewater, New Jersey, Officer Noah Allat became a hero when he pulled an unconscious driver, Peter Della-Ventura, from a burning car after it crashed into a tanker truck on Route 22 around 2 a.m.

The dramatic rescue was captured on bodycam footage, showing Allat sprinting toward the fiery wreckage, confirming with the truck driver that it was safe to approach and then dragging the 44 year old to safety as flames raged.

The crash was intense as vehicles were fused together and slid nearly 700 feet in a fireball. Della-Ventura and his passenger survived with non life threatening injuries, thanks to Allat’s quick thinking and bravery. The Bridgewater Police Department praised him for his “strength, resolve, and courage.”

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but Allat’s actions are a textbook example of guts under pressure.
