Don’t Bring The Baby!

During the University at Buffalo’s College of Arts and Sciences commencement ceremony on May 18th, 2025, graduate Jean Paul Al Arab, a criminology major, was chased across the stage by a university police officer after bringing his 6-month-old son, Mtanos, with him to collect his diploma.

Both were dressed in matching blue caps and gowns. The university’s rules prohibit anyone other than the graduating student from walking across the stage, citing safety and to avoid disruptions. Al Arab ignored multiple directives from event staff and police, leading to the brief foot chase.

A viral TikTok video showed him sprinting with his baby, shaking hands with officials and waving to a cheering crowd before being escorted off. Al Arab claimed it was a misunderstanding, stating he had asked about bringing his baby during a prep class.

The university decided not to penalize him, and he will receive his Bachelor of Arts degree as planned.

Smuggled Baby Orangutans?

Thai police have arrested a 47-year-old man in Bangkok for smuggling two baby orangutans that were found in a plastic basket at a gas station.

The orangutans, one about 1 year old and the other 1 month old, were intended for illegal sale, each valued at around $9,000 USD. Named Christopher and Stefan, they were rescued during a joint operation with the US Fish and Wildlife Service, the Wildlife Justice Commission and the UN Office on Drugs and Crime.

The suspect faces up to four years in prison for illegally possessing protected wildlife. The orangutans, native to Sumatra and Borneo and critically endangered, are now under care, with Stefan in an incubator due to weak health and Christopher in a sanctuary.

Investigations continue to trace the animals’ origins and dismantle the trafficking network.

You Need $5k?

The Trump administration is exploring proposals to boost the U.S. birth rate, which hit a historic low of 1.62 births per woman in 2023.

One idea being discussed is a $5,000 “baby bonus” payment to mothers after childbirth, aimed at incentivizing women to have more children. Other suggestions include funding programs to educate women about their menstrual cycles to aid conception, reserving 30% of scholarships for married individuals or parents and expanding access to IVF.

These proposals come from policy experts and pronatalist advocates meeting with White House aides, though no plans have been finalized or publicly endorsed by President Trump. Trump has expressed support for a “baby boom” and called the baby bonus a “good idea” at a recent event.

Critics argue the $5,000 payment is insufficient, as raising a child can cost around $300,000 to age 18, and some raise concerns about coercion or inclusivity, suggesting funds should also support adoptive parents or same-sex couples.

The Top Toddler!

A toddler nicknamed “New Bawlins” dominated in the New Orleans Pelicans Baby Crawl Race!

This little champ, competing in the 2025 event, absolutely stole the show at the Smoothie King Center during a game against the San Antonio Spurs on February 23rd, 2025.

While most of the other babies (aged 9 to 11 months) were still figuring out the starting line, “New Bawlins” zoomed across the court with unmatched speed and determination, leaving the competition in the dust.

The crowd went wild, and the internet erupted with praise, calling it one of the most dominant baby crawl performances ever seen.
