RIP Howie The Crab!

It’s a sad day for fans of Howie the Crab, the rainbow crab from Omaha who captured hearts worldwide with her charming antics.

Howie passed away on February 18th, 2025, at the age of 9, far surpassing the typical lifespan of her species, which is around 3-5 years in captivity.

Her owner, Laura Porter, shared the news with a heavy heart, describing Howie as a beloved companion who lived a remarkable life filled with love, tiny hats, and, of course, her famous caviar feasts.

Howie first scuttled into the spotlight in 2022 when a TikTok video of Laura cleaning her shell with a toothbrush went viral.

From there, her adventures (wearing custom made hats, eating luxurious treats like caviar and cheese, and even using sign language to communicate) earned her over a million followers across social media.

She wasn’t just a pet; she was a personality, showing the world that crabs could be sentient, playful, and deeply connected to their humans.

Moving The Chicken Base…

It’s true, KFC is pulling its corporate headquarters out of Kentucky after nearly a century tied to the state.

Yum! Brands, the parent company, announced on February 18, 2025, that they’re shifting KFC’s U.S. base from Louisville to Plano, Texas, where it’ll bunk with Pizza Hut’s global HQ.

About 100 Louisville based employees will relocate over the next six months, and another 90 remote workers have 18 months to make the move.

The company’s calling it a “strategic decision” to boost collaboration across its brands, and some speculate Texas’s business friendly perks (like no corporate or personal income tax) might be a draw, though Yum! didn’t confirm that.

Emergency Contact Information!

Kylie Kelce, wife of former Philadelphia Eagles star Jason Kelce, recently shared on her “Not Gonna Lie” podcast that she’s chosen her mom, Lisa McDevitt, as her emergency contact instead of her husband.

With three daughters and a fourth on the way, Kylie needs someone she can count on to pick up the phone, no questions asked.

Jason, it turns out, gets bombarded with so many random calls that he’s trained himself to ignore anything from an unknown number. “He gets so many random people calling him. It’s insane how many people call him from random phone numbers,” she explained.

She’s not shading Jason’s reliability, however, as Kylie made it clear she trusts him to “handle shit” and be there when it counts. But practically speaking, her mom’s the safer bet for a quick response.

A Historic Move!?

The New York Yankees, long known for their strict grooming policy, have finally loosened the reins.

As of February 2025, players, coaches, and uniformed personnel are allowed to sport “well-groomed beards,” marking the end of a decades old rule that banned facial hair below the upper lip (except for mustaches.)

The change, confirmed by team owner Hal Steinbrenner in a statement to the YES Network, scraps a policy instituted in 1973 by George Steinbrenner, who famously demanded clean shaven faces to maintain a professional image.

That rule led to iconic moments, like Don Mattingly’s 1991 benching for refusing to trim his mullet and mustache, and players shaving at their lockers to comply.

Now, beards are fair game as long as they’re neat (no wild, unkempt looks allowed.)

Hair length rules have also eased, though it still can’t extend below the jersey collar.

RIP Voletta Wallace!

Voletta Wallace, the mother of the legendary rapper The Notorious B.I.G., passed away at the age of 78 on February 21, 2025.

She died of natural causes at her home in Stroudsburg, Pennsylvania, where she had been under hospice care, as confirmed by Monroe County Coroner Thomas Yanac.

A Jamaican immigrant and former preschool teacher, Wallace raised her only child, Christopher Wallace (better known as Biggie Smalls) in Brooklyn, New York, as a single mother after his father left when he was two.

Following Biggie’s tragic death in a still unsolved drive by shooting in Los Angeles in 1997 at age 24, Voletta became the steadfast guardian of his legacy.

Goodbye To Hooters?

Hooters of America, the iconic casual dining chain known for its wings and scantily clad waitresses, is reportedly on the brink of bankruptcy after accumulating a hefty $300 million debt.

As of late February 2025, the company is working with law firm Ropes & Gray and turnaround advisors from Accordion Partners to prepare for a potential Chapter 11 filing, expected within the next couple of months if plans proceed.

This follows a tough period marked by declining foot traffic, rising costs for food and rent, and the closure of around 40 underperforming locations in 2024 across states like Florida, Kentucky, and Texas.
